Doll making is an ancient tradition of Bengal like any other civilization. Earthen dolls of Bengal are famous for its simplicity and connect to daily social life. Many types of dolls are available like Tepa Putul, Krishnanagar Dolls, Gala Putul etc. Mojilpur Dolls are one of the prominent such art forms which was originated by Manmath Das, who was a famous artist of Jayanagar-Mojilpur in South 24 Parganas. He was the one who started a unique style of doll making in this region. His grandson Sambhunath Das now makes colorful Mojilpur Dolls.

These dolls have some basic Bengal touch like their postures are very into Bengal’s village life, eyes are stretched and this is the reason why they look different from others.
